...preached at the altar of decay, of course. One to start the festive season. Guitars tuned to B - not in the direction you'd associate with using a capo.
Further sonic manglings are catered for by the Elektron SID station and bass guitar thumping. A quick burst of energy-type-of-tune....

Created after a trip to Brazil, it might come as no surprise that the opening rhythmic element is in fact a berimbau.
However, the world music-tag loses its relevance as the electronic manglings creep in with suttering glitchy effect and jagged, distorted edges in the melodic elements. Extreme low bass frequencies emphasize the monstrous scraping drag and tear of the middle part before entering the toned-down epilogue....

havok

Unusually energetic ( for the composer's doing ) in both loudness and driving percussive parts.
A twin bass guitar assault ( one distorted, one clean filtered type playing more disco-esque octave runs ) fight against the digital raw cutting sounds courtesy of the Elektron SID Station in a call-and-response interplay.
A multitude of processed drum tracks along with more natural percussive hits supply the rhythmic bed upon which the composition moves from near funky segments via fast arpegg...

Leaving behind the obelisk, one would not expect to be confronted by compound eyes.
Abstract percussive elements, entitled "Bird", "Insect" and "Deep", provide a scraping, clicking matrixprinter-esque backdrop to elastic-like bass sounds. Arpeggiated and legato waves provide an approximation of moving mandibles.Aural weaponry of interest that is evident on this recording: Roland TR-606 drumcomputer providing resonant kick and tom sounds, Elektron SID Station handling all things square wave....

segue

A wide repeating motif with alternating bass drones echoes through a wide space, only to be interrupted by dry bass and piano sounds and abstract radio interference. A brooding ominousness grows towards a manic theme, doubled by bass, tremolo picked guitar and berimbau hits.Recurring sounds from sister composition "flagiolettes" feature alongside more distorted / blurred noises, hinting at the tonal palette to be used by "heliopolis" and thus acting as a bridge. This piece has also been used in a...

Three minute ode to being chased by numerous shadows through the dense fog of the dark forest. Wooden percussive sounds and tribal stomps unite a blend of acoustic string sounds and more science fiction-esque futuristic synthesizers lines and machinal pops, clicks and moans. Having said that, there might be some extraterrestrial influence creeping in halfway through the chase....

hawaii in a hurry

a more upbeat, rather "quirky", happy song. Featuring as it's lead instrument a modded ukelele ( that holds a picture of both Spongebob and Patrick, how's that for rock 'n roll ? ), accompanied by a south American-esque beat and melodic, fruity bass guitar. Major 7th chords and a slide melody make this short piece a nice departure from the minor keys. ...

Long, stretched brass sounds softly cry their minimal theme in the distance, underpinned by low guitar parts....

heliopolis

Arrives at your ears in three parts:
an eastern-tinged opening ( in which low flute-esque sounds pair up with percussive glass sounds and hits ) slowly leads into a drumbreak section where slap bass coupled with effected guitars and washes of synthesizer pick up the pace frenetically, only to break down into a piece that is best described as "stoner dub", where off-beat hits complement the percussive sounds of the piece's opening, accompanied by abstract noises for a downbeat outro....
