Regrader

VST effects plugin

Regrader provides a delay effect in which the repeats degrade in various ways to provide a malevolent twist on the ears. Echoes disintegrate, are decimated, piercingly oscillate and are finally mangled into a sound reminiscent of a jet engine choking on gravel.

Think industrial or dark sound design to find a purpose for the plugin. For inspiration, it has been featured all over the Exuvia and Imago albums by Drosophelia.

Controls

Each of the modules within Regrader have different routing possibilities to finely tune your carefully sculpted noise.

The delays repeats can be synced to the hosts tempo and time signature, and all properties of Regrader can be controlled and automated.

Experimentation yields the best results, but if you want to know exactly what the controls mean, you can jump to the explanations for each section:

Echoes

  • Time the interval between repeats
  • Feedback the amount of echo signal that is being fed into itself. At high levels this can create big washes of sound and self oscillate
  • Dry/wet mix balances the amount of input (dry signal) and the delayed output (wet signal)
  • Host sync whether echoes should be bound to the tempo and time signature of the host

When host sync is disabled, the maximum interval between repeats is 5 seconds. With sync enabled, the interval range is adjustable from a 32nd note to a full measure, in time with the sequencer.

Gravel

Where the defilement begins. This section adjusts the fidelity of the echoes by controlling their bit rate.

  • Resolution controls the bit rate of the echoes
  • LFO speed speed of the oscillator adjusting the resolution
  • LFO depth amount of bit rate modulation applied by the oscillator
  • Post mix whether the apply the bit reduction before or after the echoes are mixed into the output

When the LFO speed is at 0, the oscillator is disabled and the bit rate reduction remains fixed.

Horror

Adds some decimation to the signal. This process adjust the sampling rate and can be used to emphasise certain harmonic resonances.

  • Resolution the amount of decimation applied
  • Rate the rate of decimation
  • Post mix whether to apply the decimation before or after the echoes are mixed into the output

When the resolution is at its maximum, the decimator effect is bypassed.

Filthr

Applies a filter effect onto the echoes.

  • Cutoff cutoff frequency
  • Resonance filter resonance
  • LFO speed speed of the oscillator adjusting the cutoff frequency
  • LFO depth amount of cutoff modulation applied by the oscillator
  • Post mix whether to apply the filter before or after the echoes are mixed into the output

When the LFO speed is at 0, the oscillator is disabled.

Warble

Essentially adds a flanger effect for a jet engine-like sound.

  • LFO speed speed of the flanger sweep
  • Width depth of the flanger sweep
  • Feedback amount of flanging that is being fed back onto its self.
  • Delay amount of delay applied to the flanged signal in relation to the input
  • Post mix whether to apply the flanging before or after the echoes are mixed into the output

When the LFO speed is at 0, the flanging is disabled.
